As a photographer, I have kind of have a love affair with backyard weddings. They’re intimate, beautiful, personal and make my heart happy. When I moved to Los Angeles a few years ago, I immediately fell in love with the unique charm of my neighborhood, Wilshire Vista. And my Spanish style 1930’s home and garden would be a beautiful site for any wedding….if you only invited five people. Yes, it’s far to small, but this girl can dream. Well, dream and create. I teamed up with my friend Lisa of Simon Says Design and Alexandra from Archive Rentals to create something worthy of my quaint little space. We wanted our inspiration to fit within the raw earthy tones of the home itself….something organic and natural. Tuscany (in Los Angeles). There it was. It would be a gorgeous fit against our backdrop. Lisa brought the outdoors in by creating the dreamy illusion of ivy growing from the cracks and windows of the wall. To set the scene for our our Tuscan feast we opted for natural woods, oversized farm tables, soft gauzy fabrics and linens by Silk and Willow, weathered urns, and flecks of gold. We styled the tables with organic undone centerpieces filled with olive branches, eucalyptus leaves, white roses, ranunculus, anemones, and for a pope of color, deep burgundy dahlias. Escort cards were crafted from stone and adorned with lovely calligraphy by Abbijo Designs And it wouldn’t be Tuscany if we didn’t indulge in cheeses, wine, fruits, and crusty breads. Our bride and groom, Kari & Tim, who will be celebrating in their own backyard wedding later this year were amazing. She wore a stunning gown by BHLDN with a colorful beaded bust that was both romantic and playful. He kept in simple and stylish, with navy slacks and a casual button down by JCrew.
