I like to think that I approach every wedding with a bit of excitement and eagerness. I’m always very much aware of how incredibly important the work I’m doing is to the couple and to all of their friends and family. However, in the case of Ross and Desiree’s wedding, excitement and eagerness are understatements……I had a whole range of emotions. You see, Desiree is one of my closest friends. In fact, she was the very first friend that I made when my hubby and moved across the country to LA. We had only been in the city for a couple of weeks before we explored further south and took our daughter to San Diego zoo. While we were there we took a VIP tour….Desiree was our tour guide. Yes, that’s how we met. Two weeks later Desiree was quitting her job at the zoo and came to live and work with us as the nanny for our 1 year old daughter. That was five years ago and today she’s family.
As brides go, Desiree was pretty lucky. Not only did she have me in her corner but her absolute best friend is Erin, the namesake and co-owner of Simon Says Design. In other words, the moment she said “yes” to Ross, she already had her photographer and wedding planner checked off the to-do list. After spending a few weeks of planning with the two of us, Desiree & Ross began to realize the stress that comes along with creating a wedding day. It was then that they turned the reigns over and gave full creative control to Erin, her partner Lisa, and myself. Working within their budget, the brides fave color scheme, and their chosen venue, we worked to create their dream wedding…..And everything would be a surprise until the couple walked down the aisle.
So yes, I wore a lot of hats on this day…..wedding photographer, design assistant, friend, mom to one of the many flower girls….hey, I even made the wedding cake. Yes, add that to my resume. Despite the many responsibilities I had to juggle on this incredibly hot (did I mention there was a heat wave) day, it was amazing. Witnessing one of your closest friends marry the person they love is an incredible feeling, but getting to be a part of the creative team that made the entire day possible is on a completely different level.
You can also find more lovelies from this day as it was featured on California Wedding Day.
